This show is entirely based on a Guardian music article from October this year.
From Arsedestroyer To Zoogz Rift : 50 underground albums you've never even heard of
We took this headline as a challenge.
We'd heard of just 3. Of those 3, only 1 had provided a song for a previous show of ours. Way back in 2010, the wonderful My Time by Roberto Cacciapaglia & Ann Steel made the playlist.

1/50 Ain't Bad
That left 47 albums to listen to, 47 reviews to research and 47 backstories to read. That's the thing with underground albums - chances are there's a backstory. You know the kind of thing. The entire pressing of a recording that samples sumo bouts 1 made in a small house on Skye 2 is warped on a meat packing machine 3 but eventually released on a limited edition cassette at a Science Fiction festival 4 shortly before the artist drives off in a VW Beetle never to be heard from again 5.
30 made the final cut. Some are the lowest of lo-fi, some are the most gleeful of rackets (we're looking at you Harry Pussy), some are plain odd and most defy our technically limited attempts to blend them seamlessly into a mix.
Same old Joint really.
