Not sure if "Boops (Here To Go)" is the song he'd most want to be remembered for but it's in today's playlist because it's an 80's cut-n-paste classic here at The Joint HQ.
We managed to sneak in a snippet from the 12" version of "Smalltown Boy" at the end of the show to pay our respects. If you want to fully appreciate the continuing relevance of that song we recommend this recent BBC Radio 4 Soul Music podcast.
The news of his death came in too late for us to celebrate his life on the show but he was our favourite Monkee, wrote one of our all time favourite tunes * and, coincidentally, we happen to be part way through his autobiography.
